Kate Sasso Memorial Art Contest
Held each year in February, this art contest is in honor of one of our long-time active contributors who passed away.
The contest is for 5th graders (4th graders at Radburn Elementary) as they move out of our elementary school Art Docent program and on to middle school.
Each year submissions must fit the chosen theme for that year.
All entries will be on display at the Ridgewood library in March.
Prizes are rewarded to the winners. Previous prizes have included Art Classes at the Ridgewood Art Institute and gift certificates at Blick Art Supply Store.
March is Poetry Month!
Every March we celebrate Poetry Month and each school can choose its own theme/project or use an idea shared in the Artpop meeting, such as:
Selecting a poem from the book and having each student draw a picture on an index card about the poem
Selecting a work of art and having each student think of a word about it and incorporate all the words into a single "class poem"
Asking each student to create a HAIKU poem
Leaving the poetry project idea to each docent - projects from previous years include "black-out poetry," modernist free-form (e e cummings-esque), etc.
Once the Poetry Projects are complete, they are hung and displayed in the children's rooms at the Ridgewood and Glen Rock Libraries, and can even be hung at your own school or library.
